Relapse


You know, I can't tell you how many times a woman has said to me, "I've got to lose some weight." I would reply, "What are you talkin' about? You look fine. Besides, men like a woman with a little junk in their trunk." The woman would then say to me, "It doesn't matter what y'all like. What matters is how I feel." Of course, I couldn't understand that and I didn't have any concept of what the woman meant. I've heard this and had that conversation several times and with several different women.

This morning, I weighed myself after I got out of the shower and I didn't like the results. I'm 224 lbs. I stand at 6' 1 + 1/4" so, that probably sounds better than it looks and better than I feel. Now, I understand what all of those women must have meant. About a month ago, I was so proud of myself, because I had lost weight and was down to 215 lbs., with a goal of being 200 lbs. by my birthday. It wasn't a "resolution" because I don't make 'em and it was an "achievable goal".

In between the time I last blogged about it, I suppose I've gotten just a little bit too leisurely. It's cold and when it's cold, I tend to stay in the house, eat a little bit more, and fall asleep on the couch, in my bed, or wherever. As it gets warmer, I know I'll be out and about more... swimming, on my bike, (which is in my garage, gathering dust right now), and walking up to the track, the Chinese store, over the bridge... everywhere more.

I'm no longer going to put a time limit on when I get down to 200 lbs. I'm just gonna do it (especially since it now looks like I'm not going to make it by my birthday). It's also back to fresh fruits and water in the morning, salads for lunch, and then a hot meal for dinner. No red meat (although, I haven't been eating any), a lot of poultry, some will power and no more power naps...

  1. Although, I'm not currently stressing over my weight, I can certainly empathize with you Keith on this matter as I've often "complained" about how I look/feel. I really don't have much to worry about, but maintaining my health and weight is important to me.

    Include broth based soups in your meal plan as they're filling and low calorie. I can send a few recipes your way if you'd like.

    Not giving yourself a time limit is more productive and less stressful in achieving your goal. Where possible, go for walks as they're good cardio and low impact exercises that you can do without even thinking your working out.

  2. The first step is always the toughest one. Once you hit the gym real hard one time...it'll be easier for you. Trust me!

  6. I ride my bike every afternoon that I can..weather permitting.
    I wear my Ipod and listen to my favorite songs while doing it. It makes the ride that much more enjoyable. I don't even realize I'm working out.

  12. Don't give yourself a time limit
    on that type of thing, just do it.
    Unless you're a professional athlete, it's almost impossible to lose weight on que without proper supervision.

  21. I wrote about being more on my fitness grind. I've always gone to the gym 4-5 days/week but I like to go to A LOT of happy hours. So the past weeks I still go to the gym but I have modified the way I eat. I eat 6 mini meals a day and lots of fruit/veggies/ 1 cup of coffee /day and water for the remainder of the day. I only drink one soda/week and that's on Sat. or Sun. or not at all! I also started buying organic chicken and grass fed beef it's a little more but I'm not eating all those steroids...lol!
    Also go to Borders etc and this book called "Eat This Not That" I'm only halfway thru it and it's very helpful! It's all in color and pics so it's an easy read! Subscribe to Men's Health magazine. I get Women's Health and it's the shyt!
