MEM Date Night: The Women Vs. The Men

This past Saturday evening, me and my wife attended another Marriage Enrichment Ministry "Date Night" event with our church. This time, we all went bowling at Sproul Lanes in Springfield PA, a little suburb just outside of Philly. The facility and accommodations were great... 30+ lanes, an arcade, and the food... it was all the stuff you love to eat but also know that you shouldn't eat (cheesesteaks, hoagies, hot dogs, french fries, soft pretzels, etc).

There were about 12-13 couples present so we played league style, "The Women Vs. The Men". Our bowlers were all different ages and ranged from beginners (but, not so bad that "bumpers" were needed) to experts (those who brought their OWN balls, shoes, gloves, powder, etc.). I think that me and my wife are somewhere in between the beginners and experts (my daughter is the "real" bowler in our house). At any rate, we had an interesting mix of bowlers who set the stage for a little friendly competition between spouses, fellowship with other couples, and a lotta fun.

As for the outcome of the game... well, what do you think happened? Of course, "THE MEN" won... but, let me just say right here that there were some sistas present who could match some of the brothas "strike-for-strike" so, it wasn't an easy victory. The important thing is, we all had a good time and it felt really nice to take a break from all of the intense issues of the day (and the world around us) for a few hours, "kick back", and just have fun. Here are some photos of our evening together...

Footnote: The previous MEM Date Night held in January was dinner and a movie. We all went to the California Pizza Kitchen (one of my favorite spots) to eat and we saw the T.D. Jakes film, "Not Easily Broken". The food was good and everyone really enjoyed the movie... but, unfortunately, nobody remembered to bring a camera!!!

I am guessing the Sproul Lanes is off Sproul Rd (PA 320 - I think).

No Google or Mapquest for this.

I am just trying to test my skills.

There is a map inside of my head.

I carry this I-94 shield avatar for a reason!

Now THAT sounds like my kind of fun!!! I love to bowl...I even took a few lessons when I was 8. My hubby won't admit it, but I run him off the lanes every chance I get. I'm glad you all had a wonderful time...that makes me want to put something together like this...I think I will!

KEEPING THE FAITH: RANDOM PRAYERS "ON THE DOWNLOAD"

DEAR GOD: My heart is heavy with my own failures. I try to excuse them and explain to myself why they occurred, because I want to be free from the feeling that I am unworthy and incapable of being all that I can be. But I find it easier to accept your forgiveness than to forgive myself. When I try to forgive myself, it seems I only remember and re-play my failures in my mind, and a sense of hopelessness floods over me. Help me to know that my past actions are a part of my growing humanity and that even when I fail to live up to what is your will for me, every single moment can be lived anew. Remind me that refusing to forgive myself only keeps me from experiencing that newness. Assure me of the truth that by casting “my sins into the depth of the sea”, you have freed me to discard them myself and live the next moment as if it were my first, for indeed it is. I ask this for the sake of your love. Amen.
