The "Election" That Really Counts

This was my Facebook status yesterday...

"People are upset!!! People Are outraged!!! They got hoodwinked!!! They got bamboozled!!!Brandy has been kicked off of Dancing With the Stars!!! Bristol Palin is still on the show. I hope all of these people bothered to vote in the election that really counted, which was about two weeks ago. I'm betting that half of these people didn't."

I wrote in another status...

"Half of these people can't tell you the name of our new (Republican) Governor-elect (in Pennsylvania, it's Tom Corbett, just in case you thought that I didn't know), but they know that Brandy was the better dancer on DWTS. But hell, even I know that and I don't watch the show!"

You know me... I've been hollering and screaming about our priorities where this type of thing is concerned ad nauseum as long as this blog has been in existence. Yeah, I know that Brandy got kicked off of Dancing With The Stars two nights ago... that's all everybody on Facebook and Twitter have been talking about. I'm amazed at the passion and the pure outrage over the events of a silly "reality" television show. Yet, the great majority of these people are clueless about what's about to happen to them in January when this Republican congress takes over. See, that's exactly why this type of thing happens... people get distracted by nonsense while the world collapses around them.

Oh well, maybe it's just as well. You know what they say... "Ignorance is bliss!" I'm sure Brandy will be just fine...

I voted, and had to go to 3 different polling places.

I try to vote during every election, whether local or national.

Sadly, most people don't want to think too much about real issues. Maybe it hurts their brains, or makes them feel ineffectual. But give them glamour or escapism & they become junkies to that boob tube. It's the dumbing down of America.

BTW: Is it just me, or does Brandy strangely resemble Nina Simone in that still?

One.

KEEPING THE FAITH: RANDOM PRAYERS "ON THE DOWNLOAD"

DEAR GOD: Sometimes it is so hard to wait. To wait for new things to happen in my life. To wait for you to answer my prayers. To wait for the open doors that may lead me into a new way of being. During the time of waiting, it seems that all I can think of is having what it is I am waiting for. At times I feel weary of asking and waiting, and I wonder if you really hear my prayers at all, if you are ignoring me, or if you are simply refusing to give me my heart’s desire. A part of me knows that you want my best, and that your time is not my time, but Lord, it is still so hard to wait. Deepen my trust, O Lord, during the times when my heart longs for what can only come in the fullness of time. Give me a calm assurance that your will for me is grander than anything I could ever imagine. Still my mind and heart in your love so that I am mindful of the grace you are draping around me every single day, every single moment. I ask this for the sake of your love. Amen.
