Marissa's Thanksgiving Wish!

When I heard the news I jumped for joy.... Marissa Alexander was freed a few nights ago...Just in time for Thanksgiving...I'm so glad that people are looking at her situation and in the post Trayvon Martin trial drama, not just forgetting a young African-American woman who is just as much a victim of Florida's 'Stand Your Ground "Law as young Trayvon Martin was.

As I said above..Marissa Alexander is free from jail in time to spend Thanksgiving with family she has not seen for much of the last three years.

The Florida woman – who had been serving a 20-year sentence for firing what she described as a warning shot at her abusive husband – was released from jail Wednesday night, according to a report from First Coast News. Her bond was set at $200,009.

Although no one was injured in the incident, a jury convicted Marissa Alexander of multiple counts of aggravated assault with a firearm in 2012, requiring a 20 year sentence thanks to Florida’s “10-20-Life” law, which sets mandatory minimum sentences for crimes committed with a gun. Her conviction was overturned in September when a judge ordered a retrial after finding that the jury instructions in her original trial were erroneous and had unfairly put the burden on Alexander to prove that she had fired her shot in self-defense.

Marissa Alexander has spent more than 1,000 days behind bars, according to her lawyers’ count, keeping her away from her youngest child for most of the first three years of her life.

The organizers behind the Free Marissa Now Mobilization Campaign cheered her release in a statement Thursday on the group’s Facebook page.

We are thrilled that Ms. Alexander will be able to prepare for her new trial amid the support and love of her children and family from whom she has been separated far too long,” the statement read.

The Free Marissa Now Mobilization Campaign is more determined than ever to win complete exoneration for Marissa Alexander.”

Her new trial is set to begin March 31, 2014.

It's a small victory...but I'll take it, as I'm sure Ms. Alexander will.

OH! Happy Day! Thank you, Jesus for letting this woman go free! What does a woman have to do to keep from being beaten to death by her abusive husband?

The laws in this country are so damn retarded, in some cases and races. Don't believe be, look at some of these crime shows and see how many battered women get off because they actually killed their husbands and all she did was fire a warning shot. I wont even lie, had it been me, he probably would have been shot. Enduring abuse and then not being protected. This country need to get it together on so many levels.

KEEPING THE FAITH: RANDOM PRAYERS "ON THE DOWNLOAD"

DEAR GOD: My heart is heavy with my own failures. I try to excuse them and explain to myself why they occurred, because I want to be free from the feeling that I am unworthy and incapable of being all that I can be. But I find it easier to accept your forgiveness than to forgive myself. When I try to forgive myself, it seems I only remember and re-play my failures in my mind, and a sense of hopelessness floods over me. Help me to know that my past actions are a part of my growing humanity and that even when I fail to live up to what is your will for me, every single moment can be lived anew. Remind me that refusing to forgive myself only keeps me from experiencing that newness. Assure me of the truth that by casting “my sins into the depth of the sea”, you have freed me to discard them myself and live the next moment as if it were my first, for indeed it is. I ask this for the sake of your love. Amen.
