July Perry will probably never be in this history books, He is one of millions of African-Americans lynched in the old south...He has been dead over one hundred years now...But his life mattered...Just like George Floyd and Breonna Taylor's lives matter..
So who you say was July Perry? July Perry was an affluent man who went to the polls in Ocoee, Florida to vote in 1920 and was turned away and told that he had not paid his poll tax, and he debated that, saying ‘"I paid every tax I was supposed to pay,’" and because of the debate, and it got heated, he left, went home, and a mob followed him and shot into his home.
He returned fire. Some of the members of the mob were killed. He was taken out of his home in front of his wife and children, and brought to the Orange County Courthouse in Orlando. The mob followed, took him out and hung him to a tree on Orange Blossom Trail, left his body there, riddled it with bullets to serve as an example to other African Americans who might contemplate voting, that this is what would happen.”
Some idiotic people in our race ,claiming to be "Woke" have the audacity to think we as African-Americans should not vote..That is crazy...That is a dis service to the life and memory of July Perry.
I vote in every election no matter what. Today, nobody is asking me to pay a poll tax and no mob will run up to my house and tell me I can't vote...
I owe it to July Perry and all the others like him to vote...I'm an American Citizen...It's my right to vote.
IF YOU BELIEVE THAT BLACK LIVES MATTER, THEN YOU KNOW THAT VOTING MATTERS TOO!
