The Issue of Colin Kaepernick

My very first post on this blog was about sports...About my Eagles...This post...I'm not sure what number it is concerns my fraternity brother , Colin Kaepernick and is not so much about sports as it is social justice and fairness..

For Colin Kaepernick to be exiled from Football for seven years in his prime because of a symbolic kneel during the national anthem is clearly the height of absurdity and unfairness. He should have been brought back long ago. For this serious injustice, I would support his reinstatement along with generous back pay by the NFL.

My thoery has been that most of the owners are  wealthy white males , who tend to lean Republican and who were scared of Former President Trump's criticism during that time when Kaepernick was protesting.
He's no longer President... He's not even on Twitter and he's about to go to jail.... What is the excuse now?  Several teams could use at least a good back up quarterback...What's the excuse now for continuing to blackball this man?

And For The Win

Nike's 2018 "Just Do It" campaign, which featured Colin Kaepernick, drew competing reactions from both sides of the political spectrum.

For Colorado's Prime Time Sports owner Stephen Martin, it meant slashing prices on Nike gear in an effort to take Nike out of his store completely. Now, the store is closing five months later.
According to koaa.com, Martin will close the Colorado Springs sports apparel store after 20 years because he can no longer afford his lease. He blamed his protest of Nike for playing a major part in the store's closure.

"Being a sports store without Nike is kind of like being a milk store without milk or a gas station without gas. How do you do it? They have a monopoly on jerseys," said Martin.(No Relation to me!)

Martin says he's the only full service, licensed fan shop between Castle Rock and the New Mexico border. Despite having all 32 NFL team's apparel in his store, he doesn't have any current players' jerseys-because of his decision to drop all Nike apparel.

Prime Time was the same store that canceled an autograph signing with Brandon Marshall after the Broncos linebacker protested police brutality by kneeling during the national anthem in 2016.
Martin came to the realization that Kaepernick and Marshall have a lot of supporters who can shop elsewhere.
"As much as I hate to admit this, perhaps there are more Brandon Marshall and Colin Kaepernick supporters out there than I realized," said Martin.

I guess they do!

Martin expects to close the store next month.

NFL Dishonors The Flag

The NFL, by their actions in punishing teams who have players that kneel in protest of police brutality and racial inequality , dishonor the flag and America....

As citizens, we have a right to free speech and peaceful protest....TheNFL does not have a right to force players or anybody to stand for the flag or say the pledge of allegieance..

Oh...Or is that just for White Males????

I'll wait........................................................................................

Philadelphia Sports Fan Blues

I swear...Being a Philadelphia Sports fan is like never having a date for the prom...You're sittin around watching everybody else go and you're standing on the corner listening to a slow Isley Brothers jam and drinkin a Coke...Wait a minute....The visual of that was kind of scary!

When I was 9, the 76ers won their first NBA Championship...When I was 15 and 16 respectively,The Flyers won back to back Stanley Cups....I was 22 when the Phillies won the World Series...25 when the 76ers won their second NBA championship....and 50 when the photo above was taken...The Phillies won their second World Series....At the rate I'm going...I'll be 75 when the Eagles finally win a superbowl...

Guess I shouldn't complain....There are fans in some cities whose teams have never won anything!

R.I.P. Anthony Mason

 (1966-2015)

If you're a true sports fan as I am...and a basketball fan as I am in particular...You awoke this morning to the news that former New York Knicks power forward, Anthony Mason has passed away..from the effects of a heart attack he suffered a few weeks ago...

I always loved this man's game...Even though he often was bruising my beloved 76ers....He played in a different era...A different time...Back when the Atlantic Division of the NBA was Tough..The Celtics, the 76ers and The New York Knicks were perrenial locks to go to the playoffs and possibly the NBA Finals..

It was bruising , in your face , street playground basketball at best...and nobody personified it more than Anthony "Real Mase" Mason....

Anthony Mason, a bruising power forward who personified the gritty Knicks of the mid-'90s, died early this morning. He was 48.

Anthony Mason had suffered a massive heart attack earlier in the month as I said.

"Mase" played 13 seasons in the NBA with six teams but is best remembered for his days with the New York Knicks. After playing abroad and in both the CBA and USBL, Anthony Mason had brief stints with the Nets(before they were Brooklyn) and Denver before being signed by Pat Riley, who admired his rugged style and his play making ability. Along with Patrick Ewing and Charles Oakley, he helped give the Knicks of the early ’90s one of the most physically imposing front lines in NBA history.

"He was as tough as they come,"his friend and former team-mate Charles Oakley told the News.

"First I want to think all those who offered prayers and well-wishes for my Father, our family really appreciates it," his son, Anthony Mason Jr. said in a statement.

“Overnight New York City and the world lost a legend, a friend, a brother... but more than anything our father, Anthony Mason,”Anthony  Mason Jr. continued. “As you all would expect our father - Big Mase - put up an incredible fight, dealing with severe heart issues. I'm wishing this was something else I was writing, but Pops we've got to let you know” ‘we love you and know you'll always be with us. ‘”
“I ask at this time that you respect our family's privacy with regard to questions as our family takes the time to mourn,” Mason Jr.’s message concluded.

Yes...I need time to take this all in myself.

Heartbreaker

Can My Philadelphia 76ers catch a break?   They were so close to winning their first game tonight or last night as I write this...They were up three, with a few seconds to go and lost by a buzzer beater.....

I mean that's better than the 50 point loss to Detroit the other night...but come on now...We are 0-9 ,I believe...Worst in the NBA....

It's going to be a longgggggggggggggg  Basketball season.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

You think this might have anything to do with race??      Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

U.S. national team goalkeeper Hope Solo is again asserting her innocence in a domestic violence assault case that she faces in Washington state.
Solo posted a statement to on her official Facebook page on Tuesday evening. She says ''Once all the facts come to light and the legal process is concluded, I am confident that I will be fully exonerated.''

Now I'm not saying wheteher she is guilty or innocent...I'm just saying that I've heard this all before...from all people charged with abuse...

Solo is charged with two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree domestic violence assault stemming from a June 21 altercation with her sister and 17-year-old nephew at a family gathering in Kirkland, Washington.

She has pleaded not guilty and the case is scheduled for trial on Nov. 4. She faces up to six months in jail if convicted.
The post was her second addressing the matter: She also apologized to her fans shortly after her arrest.

Ms.Solo, who has been with the national team since 2000 and recently set the team record for most career shutouts, continued to play for the United States in exhibition matches and with her National Women's Soccer League team, the Seattle Reign.
Her comments come a day after U.S. Soccer said it would stand by its decision to allow Solo to play while the legal process plays out.

''U.S. Soccer takes the issue of domestic violence very seriously. From the beginning, we considered the information available and have taken a deliberate and thoughtful approach regarding Hope Solo's status with the national team,'' U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati said in a statement.

''Based on that information, U.S. Soccer stands by our decision to allow her to participate with the team as the legal process unfolds. If new information becomes available we will carefully consider it.''

Nike also said Tuesday it would continue its sponsorship deal with Solo.
''We are aware of the allegations and that Hope Solo has pled ''not guilty'' to the charges. Hope remains a Nike athlete and we will continue to monitor the situation,'' the company said in a statement.

All I'm asking is did Tiger Woods, Adrian Peterson and Ray Rice get the same consideration and understanding when they were  involved in their controversies or did
these corporate sponsers back away from them like they had the plague?  I'm just asking.

These guys...Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson have been the subject of almost universal villification and OUTRAGE for the past month....Americans are always outraged about something...Seldom is it what they ought to be OUTRAGED about...We are just programmed sheep, who do what the Television and the computer screen tells us...George Orwell could write another book about this..Call it 2084...

Ms.Solo is expected to start in goal for the U.S. women when the team plays next month in the CONCACAF championship, which will be played in four U.S. cities with the final scheduled for Oct. 26 at PPL Park in Pennsylvania. The event serves as a qualifying event for next summer's Women's World Cup in Canada.

In an exhibition match against Mexico in Sandy, Utah, earlier this month, Ms.Solo recorded her 72nd career shutout in an 8-0 U.S. victory. She passed Briana Scurry (1994-2008) on the career list.
Solo, 32, has played in 155 international matches and was with the U.S. team that won gold medals at the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics.

So again I pose the inital question-

Do You think this might have anything to do with race??

     Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
