An Ironic Death

R.I. P. - Blair River (1981-2011)
I wasn't going to write a post for today, but I just happened to come across this story in the newspaper and I just had to say something. (You know how I am)
It's Saturday, and probably a lot of you won't even see this...but if you do...check this out.

In Phoenix ,Arizona a 575-pound man who gained a measure of fame as spokesman for,get this , the Heart Attack Grill — a Phoenix-area restaurant that unabashedly touts its unhealthy, high-calorie menu — has died.

The Friends of 29-year-old Blair River say he died Tuesday, possibly from contracting pneumonia after a bout with the flu.Restaurant founder Jon Basso told The Arizona Republic that Blair River was more than the larger-than-life caricature he portrayed in promoting the restaurant in Chandler (There is a temptation here to make many jokes, but under the circumstances, I'll refrain.) which includes huge hamburgers, milkshakes and fries cooked in lard on its menu.

Basso said that Blair River was a creative genius who had been planning to take part in the shooting of a promotional spot called, "Heart Attack Grill: The Musical."(I kid you not...I can't make this stuff up.)

"Cynical people might think this (River's death) is funny," Basso said. "But people who knew him are crying their eyes out. There is a lot of mourning going on around here. You couldn't have found a better person."

The 6-foot-8 Blair River was an Arizona state high school heavyweight wrestling champion in 1999 and played football at Mesa Community College.

The truth of the matter is that in many cases of people who are huge like Rivers and eat unhealthy, they are definitely not jolly....They are using food, the same way the junkie uses dope and the sex addict uses sex..to fill some huge void inside of them that needs to be closed..

Of all of his friends who are "crying their eyes out." I wonder if any of them took the time to talk to him, find out his mental state of mind...Or did they laugh at him and with him?

There is nothing funny about a young man with his creativity and potential dropping dead...Nothing at all. There is nothing funny about purposely over eating high caloried foods....

We, and by we..I mean me too..all could stand to eat healthier and to get out and exercise.........because unfortunately in the case of this young man...The joke was on him.

On behalf of the blogger that lost 30 pounds and subsequently saw his BP drop 30 points, I am glad you posted this.

Healthily yours,

I can't really hate the man, not really. He lived like he wanted to. He enjoyed eating and so in his mind and heart his life was good. No condemnation here. Prayers to his family.

KEEPING THE FAITH: RANDOM PRAYERS "ON THE DOWNLOAD"

DEAR GOD: Sometimes it is so hard to wait. To wait for new things to happen in my life. To wait for you to answer my prayers. To wait for the open doors that may lead me into a new way of being. During the time of waiting, it seems that all I can think of is having what it is I am waiting for. At times I feel weary of asking and waiting, and I wonder if you really hear my prayers at all, if you are ignoring me, or if you are simply refusing to give me my heart’s desire. A part of me knows that you want my best, and that your time is not my time, but Lord, it is still so hard to wait. Deepen my trust, O Lord, during the times when my heart longs for what can only come in the fullness of time. Give me a calm assurance that your will for me is grander than anything I could ever imagine. Still my mind and heart in your love so that I am mindful of the grace you are draping around me every single day, every single moment. I ask this for the sake of your love. Amen.
