This April, Trump’s Justice Department indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center in a politically-motivated attack to bring their crucial work to track violent white supremacists to a halt. Then, before a court or jury heard a word, Fidelity fell in line with Trump, blocking donations to SPLC from their donor-advised funds (DAFs), which provide a critical funding source for many charities, public services, and civic organizations. Vanguard Charitable, Charles Schwab DAFgiving360, Goldman Sachs Gives, and Thrivent Financial followed.
Color Of Change swiftly acted to demand that these powerful financial institutions reverse course—and we’ve heard nothing in response. But today, the spotlight is on donor-advised funds with a national DAF Day of Giving, giving us an opportunity to escalate. So we’re amping up the pressure on Fidelity as the first major player to act, which set off a cascade of other financial institutions blacklisting civil rights in capitulation to Trump.
