FERGUSON BURNS

"And I shouted out ,who killed the Kennedy's...When After All...It was You and Me" -Mick Jagger and Keith Richards- "Sympathy For The Devil" (1969)

Last night the grand jury in Ferguson ,Mo. declined to indict Officer Darren Wilson for the shooting of an unarmed Black Teenager...Michael Brown...I have to admit...I wasn't surprised....When I saw them bringing in the National Guard and all of the heavy artillery...I pretty much knew that the fix was in....

As expected...The news didn't sit to well with the crowd...
Rioting, looting and fires broke out and despite the heavy police and National Guard presence...They either were powerless to stop it or they just let it happen....Neither scenario surprises me....

I want to believe  so much in the rule of law, but everyday it gets harder and harder to believe in a system that protects and serves one group of people and just punishes another group...Everyday it gets harder for me to want to share citizenship with people who think of people with my skin color as animals and sub-human anyway and who sees people who share my skin color as wrong from the beginning...everyday it gets harder and harder for me to call myself an American......

Maybe if this didn't happen so much and so often...I could overlook this one case....But you see, it follows a pattern...Unarmed Black male shot and killed by White male ,with gun who then swears up and down...."I was afraid for my life....I was scared to death....I HAD TO DO IT!!!!!ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"   Despite how incredible the story sounds....People wind up believing it....and then to make matters worse....The dead victim is villified...If he has jay walked...If he has spit in the street when he was 12 ...If he has forgotten his grandmother's birthday......All of this will be dragged up and used to convince the public that this is a horrible person and so...He kind of deserved to get killed.

In Micheal Brown's case...Somebody brought up the fact that he stood at six feet and three inches and was over 300 pounds....Yessss...a very frightening man....I can see why the officer had to shoot him six times...To make sure he was dead....

So when this scenario keeps presenting itself and nine times out of ten you excuse the killer...I can't get too upset at the rage that has bubbled over...I don't condone rioting....and violence...But I understand frustration...I understand that sometimes you just get tired of hearing the same old bullshit.....

And we all are at fault.....All of us...White and Black...This is the world we made for our children....This is the world we refuse to change....for our children....and this is what we get......

AMERICA!  AMERICA...GOD SHED HIS GRACE ON THEE!

Ohhh Really?

See why I don't get these Republicans??....And they are thinking about running this man for President....and yelled and screamed that this man, who IS the PRESIDENT...Who was born in the great state of Hawaii
is not an American Citizen...
Kind of makes you wonder doesn't it?   Just who is zooming who?

Not A Good Time To Be Cosby

It truly is not a good time to be Bill Cosby......

Was it only a generation ago that Bill Cosby played the role of America's Dad, with a No. 1-rated family sitcom, a runaway best-seller about fatherhood and a lucrative ad career built around his Everyman image.

His legacy as a pioneering African-American entertainer seemed secure. Early success as a stand-up comic was followed by a starring role in "I Spy," the 1960s TV hit. In the 1980s, he starred as Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable in "The Cosby Show," one of the first sitcoms centered on an affluent African-American family.

Now, his career stands threatened by allegations of sexual misconduct — with media companies running away from the man they once embraced in a hurry..

The scandal will "certainly shoulder its way into" the way  Mr. Cosby is remembered, even after his death, said Martin Kaplan, professor at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California.

"Obits traditionally have a 'who' sentence at the start," Martin Kaplan added. "Until now, his would have been: 'Bill Cosby, who ...' followed by something about the Huxtables and being America's Dad. Now I think that sentence will continue with ... this sad, sordid history now unfolding."

The onetime father figure is battling claims that he sexually assaulted women, including aspiring actresses looking to break into showbiz. The alleged victims who have recently stepped forward include former model Janice Dickinson, whose rape claim was vigorously denied by a Cosby attorney this week.

The escalating crisis of image forced NBC officials on Wednesday to scrap plans to develop a Cosby comedy pilot in which he would have played the grandfather in an extended family.

"We can confirm that the Cosby project is no longer in development," said a person with knowledge of the situation who was not authorized to speak publicly. By Wednesday afternoon, the cable network TV Land announced it was pulling episodes of "The Cosby Show" from its channel indefinitely.

Those actions followed an interview with Dickinson that aired Tuesday on "Entertainment Tonight" that prompted Netflix to back out of a special in honor of the comedian. "At this time we are postponing the launch of the new stand-up special 'Bill Cosby 77,' " a Netflix spokesman said in a statement.

The program, taped on the performer's 77th birthday, had been scheduled to premiere Nov. 28. The statement neither gave a reason for the postponement nor specified whether it would be rescheduled.

Meanwhile, a coalition of civil rights and women's groups on Wednesday called on the Treasure Island resort in Las Vegas to postpone an upcoming appearance by Cosby pending an investigation of his alleged victims' claims.

Although these allegations have only recently gained national attention, they date back decades...I had heard whispers about this before...But I'm not hearing whispers now..It's LOUD!

In 2005, Temple University staffer Andrea Constand sued Mr. Cosby, claiming he drugged and groped her during a visit the year before to his Philadelphia home. During that case, 13 other women came forward with similar stories and were prepared to testify, according to published reports. But her lawyers reached an out-of-court settlement with Cosby in 2006; the terms were not disclosed. The scandal died down so much that it was not mentioned in Mark Whitaker's biography of Cosby published earlier this year. "There were no definitive court findings," Whitaker explained to the Huffington Post.

Further back, in 1997, a woman named Autumn Jackson who claimed to be Cosby's biological child was convicted of trying to extort millions of dollars from the entertainer. Cosby admitted to a relationship with Jackson's mother but denied paternity.

The accusations returned to the spotlight last month after a routine by stand-up comedian Hannibal Buress made fun of Cosby's fatherly image in light of the allegations of sexual misconduct.

Hanibal Buress' stand up routine, captured on a jerky smartphone camera, quickly ricocheted around the Internet. It went "viral as they say and America once again was OUTRAGED!!  I tell you it seems like we are outraged about something or someone every week... It proved the match that lighted the fuse. On Nov. 13, The Washington Post published a first-person piece by Arizona artist Barbara Bowman in which she claimed that Mr. Cosby had drugged and repeatedly raped her in 1985, when she was a 17-year-old aspiring actress.

My thing is this...These women have been silent for all these years..Now some comedian, who few people ever heard of outside of serious comedy groupies tells a joke...a joke he has been telling for months and all of a sudden ALL of these women suddenly remember Mr. Cosby assaulted them in 1972, 1977, 1982 ,1985 et al...I'm just saying...True or not...It does make you wonder or at least it should....Most of these cases were settled out of court(meaning somebody took some cash for their silence...) and are so old he can't be prosecuted for them even if he is in fact guilty....Again..If you weren't there, you don't know..Only Mr. Cosby and the girls know for sure....We should remember...These are just accusations...I can accuse somebody of doing anything....With no concrete proof or action it means nothing...

A lot of us forget that....We just join in with the crowd and hope to GOd...Nobody discovers the skelaton bones in our own closets and puts it on the internet!

Weekend Humor

A murderer, imprisoned for life, broke free after 15 years and was on the run. He broke into a house and tied up the young couple he found in the bedroom; the man to a chair on one side of the room and his wife to the bed.

The helpless husband watched him get on the bed, straddle his wife and start to nuzzle her neck. His wife started to move her head violently, at which the man got up and left the room.

The husband squirmed the chair across the room to his young wife and hissed, "Darling, I saw him kissing you. He probably hasn't seen a woman in years. Please cooperate. If he wants to have sex, just go along with it and even pretend you like it. Whatever you do don't fight him or make him mad. Our lives may depend on it!"

"Darling," the wife said, spitting out her gag. "I'm so relieved you feel that way. He wasn't kissing me, he was whispering to me. He told me he thinks you're really cute and asked if we kept the Vaseline in the bathroom."

"WHATTTTTTTTTTTTT???" screamed the husband!

Everybody have a groovy weekend!

Not This Non-Sense Again

Fresh Off of their Senate and House takeover ,here comes the G.O.P. with this suing the President nonsense again....You would think that they would at least go in a different direction this time...

You would think...

House Republicans have filed an expected lawsuit against President Barack Obama over his implementation of the Affordable Care Act, the New York Times reported on Friday.

The suit accuses the administration of acting without congressional authority in delaying the employer mandate provision of the Affordable Care Act. It also challenges the administration's giveaway of $175 billion to insurance companies under the law because the funds weren't explicitly appropriated by Congress.

The move comes just hours after the president announced that he was taking executive action to shield millions of undocumented immigrants from deportation, a step that Republicans also deem worthy of legal recourse because of his decision to bypass Congress. The GOP lawsuit does not, however, include immigration.

Republicans struggled to find representation for the case. Constitutional lawyer and separation of powers advocate Jonathan Turley signed on earlier this week after two major law firms dropped the case.

"Unilateral, unchecked Executive action is precisely the danger that the Framers sought to avoid in our constitutional system. This case represents a long-overdue effort by Congress to resolve fundamental Separation of Powers issues. In that sense, it has more to do with constitutional law than health care law," Turley said in a note about the issue on his blog.

You know what's going to happen with this...In a few months they are going to drop it just like they did the last time, revealing that this is just a show..a show only the dumbest and most ignorant of our citizenry will be impressed by...

And in all of this ,they will not have come up with an alternative plan or  have passed a single bill....

My question is...How long will it be before the American People get hip to the G.O.P. Dog and Pony show?

Countdown In Ferguson

I have a Frat Brother, Larry Lewis, who lives in the St. Louis area....He has been galvanized by the shootings of Mike Brown in Ferguson and another youth in St. Louis...He has been on the picket lines in Ferguson everyday since the event occurred this summer....And keeping me and all of his Facebook friends aware of what is really going on via Facebook and Twitter....The miracle of today's social media...It really can unite..and be used as an organizing tool...

Before I go on,let me say that Brother Lewis is also the brother of actress Jennifer Lewis...who plays everybody's mother in every contemporary black film of the past 25 years...
He wants everybody to know that even though until this week the national media had kind of forgotten about Ferguson,Missouri and the shooting of Mike Brown, the unarmed 18 year old African-American youth shot by White officer, Darren Wilson...The Black community there has not...They have been filling the streets up with protests everyday and every night since it happened...

Which is why what I'm about to report next is happening...

Troops from the Missouri National Guard prepared to deploy on Tuesday around Ferguson on Tuesday as the city awaits a grand jury's decision on whether to indict a white police officer who shot and killed an unarmed black teenager in August.

Governor Jay Nixon has declared a state of emergency in Missouri but said troops would play a backup role to police in response to any protests that develop after the decision.
People around St. Louis are braced for a possible new wave of protests similar to those that followed the Aug. 9 fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown, particularly if Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson is not charged.

My money is on him not being charged....

Officials have said the grand jury's decision is likely to come this month.
Nixon on Tuesday was due to swear in the members of a new "Ferguson Commission," a group charged with reviewing the social and economic conditions that contributed to the unrest that followed Brown's death and coming up with suggestions for how to improve them.

More than one out of five residents of Ferguson, a predominantly black city of about 21,000 people, live below the poverty level, a rate that is above the state average, according to U.S. Census data.
Governor Nixon declined to say how many National Guard troops would be assigned to the St. Louis area or where they would be stationed.

As I've said..Peaceful demonstrations were held around St. Louis on Sunday and Monday and some local leaders expressed frustration over Nixon's state of emergency declaration.
"The National Guard is called in when policing has failed. Military presence in my city will mark a historic failure on the part of (government)," Antonio French, a St. Louis alderman, said on Twitter. "This is not a war. There is no military solution."

Police in Ferguson were criticized for taking a military posture in response to the August demonstrations, regularly deploying officers in riot gear and using tear gas and rubber bullets against crowds that torched two businesses in the St. Louis suburb and at times threw rocks and gasoline bombs at police.
Police in St. Louis County have since gone through conflict de-escalation training and activist leaders have also been training potential protesters in nonviolent techniques in recent days. County police will take the lead in handling any protests or civic disorder, supplanting the Ferguson Police Department, Nixon said.

St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay said his city's police force would respond to demonstrations in their normal uniforms unless conditions became violent and that National Guard troops would not play a primary role in responding.

Some area schools have told parents they will dismiss students early when the decision comes and many businesses near the stretch of downtown that saw the worst rioting after Brown's killing have boarded up their windows as a protective move.

There are conflicting accounts of what happened, with some witnesses saying Brown had his hands up in surrender when he was shot and others describing a scuffle between Brown and Wilson.

There is much fear and apprehension  in this area right now....If the game wasn't already rigged why would it be...

Stay Tuned.

The Cosby Conundrum

If you're from Philadelphia as I am...Then you naturally know Philly's favorite son...Not Rocky Balboa...But Bill Cosby...

I've actually never met the man in person...But I feel as though I know him...He has loomed large over me and every Black Philadelphian of a certain age for as long as I can remember..

On Thursday Nights in the 80's from 8:00-8:30 , my entire family was in front of a television set watching the Cosby show...For years he has been an icon and a hero to all Philadelphians...

Unfortunately...Heroes ,real life human beings either die young or they live long enough to be found out to be, well, human and with flaws like everybody else...

Until a few weeks ago when an obscure comedian, Hanibal Buress made an unflattering joke about Bill Cosby being an alleged rapist...I knew nothing about eight women in the 80's who accused him of drugging them and taking advantage of them sexually........

I know now....Or do I?

These charges were never brought to trial...Bill Cosby was never charged with anything and to my knowledge ,they all were settled out of court...Which means somebody took some money...

Now they're back....Because of one relatively unknown comedian's joke which went viral!

This is America...We love to build our heroes up ,just so we can tear them down.....

Yesterday was the ultimate in embarassment for the 77 year old comedian..

A new promotional feature on Bill Cosby's official website has backfired. Instead, Internet users are posting stills that highlight the legendary comic's troubled past.

"Go ahead. Meme me!" Cosby instructed his Twitter followers on Monday afternoon, directing people to a gallery of photos from his famed sitcom and encouraging them to add witty captions.

And meme they did, but not the kind Cosby would want. The hashtag "#cosbymeme" saw instant uploads alluding to allegations that Cosby drugged and raped a woman at his Pennsylvania mansion in 2004.

The case was settled out of court in 2006 but that didn't stop it from taking over Twitter and Facebook on Monday, with plenty of deadpan humor to spare. All thanks to Cosby's own photo tool.

My daughter says this is why Old people should stay off of Social Media...

Cosby's representative didn't immediately return TheWrap's request for comment. And the meme feature is still active on his site.

Instead of Internet users using the meme generator link provided by the the 77-year-old actor to create wholesome jokes, Cosby was put on blast over sexual assault accusations against him that date back to the 1970s.

"Look at this wacky shirt I'm wearing, also I am a serial rapist," one read.

"My two favorite things: Jello pudding and rape," said the text splashed across another photo of "The Cosby Show" actor.

In 2004, reports surfaced that 13 women had claimed to have been sexually abused by the TV personality.

Comedian Hannibal Buress recently called out Cosby in a stand-up routine at a Philadelphia club in October.

“Thirteen?" Buress said

"It's even worse because Bill Cosby has the fuckin' smuggest old black man public persona that I hate. He gets on TV and says, Pull your pants up black people, I was on TV in the '80s! I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom!' Yeah, but you rape women, Bill Cosby, so turn the crazy down a couple notches."

Tell me the truth..Had anyone ever heard of Hanibal Buress before his now infamous stand up routine??

You have heard of him now...

All I'm going to say is I hope he has more material and this isn't all he's ever going to be known for...Bringing down a beloved icon.

What Is Wrong With This Photo?

This is filed in the ,"I can't make this up" file...This is no hoax...This actually happened in Fort Lauderdale,Florida last week...Some good Samaritans were actually arrested for feeding the homeless in the street...

This in a town where wealthy and semi-wealthy college students come every spring for spring break and get into all kinds of drunken debauchery...without mind you getting arrested!

I've never actually put a public official on blast before...but I have to make a precedent in this case-

There is something very wrong. Something very wrong with this scenario. Give the Fort Lauderdale Mayor a phone call or an email to let him know what you think about criminalizing kindness: 954-828-5003 or via e-mail at jack.seiler@fortlauderdale.gov.  Tell him or whoever will listen that this is just plain wrong!

Weekend Humor

A little boy was waiting for his mother to come out of the grocery store.

As he waited, he was approached by a man who asked, "Son, can you tell me where the post office is?"

The little boy replied, "Sure, just go straight down the street a couple of blocks and turn to your right."

The man thanked the boy kindly and said, "I'm the new pastor in town, and I'd like for you to come to church on Sunday. I'll show you how to get to Heaven."

The little boy replied with a chuckle, "Awww, come on man, you don't even know the way to the post office!"

Everybody have a groovy weekend.

What Is It About Mid Term Elections

What is it about mid-term elections that makes people not vote?  Or rather not enough people voting?  Everybody I know at least said that they voted...Not sure if they did or not...But it obviously wasn't enough...

The Republicans who have an abysmal record miraculously managed to pull a snow job on the American People again...and convince enough people to vote for them...

Just what do the American people think they are going to get?

Republicans took the Senate majority in a commanding sweep on Tuesday, winning nearly every contested race across the country, gaining governor's mansions and adding to their majority in the House of Representatives. For weeks, pundits had debated the semantics of what would constitute a "wave" election, but when it came, it was unmistakable.

Republicans unseated Democratic incumbents in Senate races in Arkansas, North Carolina, and Colorado, and were leading in Alaska early Wednesday. They easily held onto GOP-controlled seats in Georgia, Kansas, and Kentucky. In New Hampshire, Democrat Jeanne Shaheen barely held on against Republican Scott Brown. In one of the night's biggest surprises, Virginia Senator Mark Warner, who was thought to be safe, was up only half a point over his Republican challenger early Wednesday. The Louisiana election, in which Democrat Mary Landrieu finished slightly ahead of her Republican challenger, Bill Cassidy, was set to go to a December runoff, which Cassidy is favored to win.

Why did this happen?

It happened because we  are like sheep...We live by the soundbite...We don't read, we don't investigate..We just believe what we hear on the internet,in the media... at the barber shop in the bedroom...
President Obama 's administration has given Health Care to millions who didn't have it before...It's working..So now the Republicans have stopped calling it Obamacare and call it The Affordable care act and are trying to act like it was because of them....

Gas is down to close to three dollars a gallon...Unemployment has dropped to 2007 levels...The Economy is actually improving and yet...President Obama's popularity is at an all time low...If you believe the pundits and the pollsters.....Remember the question I asked yesterday...Did they poll you?? Did they question you or anybody you know?? But you saw on the Television news that his popularity has dropped and that a Republican tidal wave was coming so you decided...Well, they look like they got this on lock,so I aint gonna vote...You decided that before you went to the ballot box...and they KNEW all they had to do was tell you they were going to win and you and most people were going to act accordingly...

I don't know what else I can say....I don't know if anything I write here even makes a difference...At this point...I'm just venting....I'm just writing now the same things I wrote in 2008,In 2009 and in 2010...Same thing happened..Writing this blog is a waste of time..Few people see it...and if they do...It hasn't changed a thing...

There was however one bright spot last night...In my home state of Pennsylvania...
Pennsylvania's abysmally unpopular Republican governor, Tom Corbett, was defeated by Tom Wolfe...

Republicans took over governor's mansions in Arkansas, Illinois, Maryland, and Massachusetts, and were leading in Connecticut, and Colorado. Controversial Republican incumbents Scott Walker (Wisconsin), Rick Snyder (Michigan), Sam Brownback (Kansas), Paul LePage (Maine), Nathan Deal (Georgia), and Rick Scott (Florida), all of whom had appeared vulnerable in pre-election polls, all appeared to hold on to win reelection.

Ebullient Republicans, many of whom had run relentlessly one-note campaigns focused on the so called  unpopular president, touted the results as a rejection of President Obama and Democratic policies. "This race wasn't about me or my opponent," Mitch McConnell, the Kentucky senator who easily won reelection and stands to become the new majority leader, told a ballroom full of supporters here. "It was about a government people no longer trust."  I have never trusted him...

Laugh now...but I do know one thing...People with too much power can never control themselves...But how much do we have to suffer before they tear their own asses as My grandmother used to say!

Your Vote is Your Voice

I plan to be at the polls today bright and early...before they open....You should be too...Vote early, get it out of the way...

Why wouldn't you vote?  Especially if you are African-American and or a woman? Why would you throw away a right that people around the world are fighting and dying to have?

Why wouldn't you vote?  People lost their lives so that you could vote...

Do you know how many people struggled for your right to vote?

People are afraid of your vote...Your vote means something...If it didn't..There wouldn't be people fervently working to stop you from voting...To discourage you and to slow you down....

Your Vote is your voice...For some of us...It's the only voice you have...

Stop worrying about polls..about polls saying that the Republicans have this in the bag...Ask yourself this..has any of those pollsters called your house.??..Any of those pollsters asked you a damn thing? have they asked anybody you know??  Alright then...So they don't know how you feel..how you're going to vote..

Nobody has anything in the bag until people have actually voted...Your vote is your voice....

I plan to be at the polls this morning, bright and early...before they open....You should be too..

What I've Learned

1.My Mother taught me..."Never Pay for something you don't want" And she wasn't just talking about retail.

2.If you're not willing to give,if you don't have any flex and you're constantly stuck in your own ways or you're constantly fighting because you wanna do what you wanna do without recognizing what the other person wants, that is probably the quickest way to destroy a marriage and a friendship.

3.Having been in the military I learned this one thing...Your government will lie to you to send you to some war, and as a patriotic American you'll unhesitatingly and unquestionably answer the call. But once there, you'll fight for one thing and one thing only to make it home alive."

4. Every Day is a Good One...It's A Day Extra!

5,When I was young I thought I couldn't die.... or at least I acted like it... I know better now. But I'm glad I didn't know better then.

6. The Old Folks used to say "I'm here because somebody prayed for me...I'm pretty sure that a lot of people must have prayed for me..

7.There's no one-size-fits-all approach to wellness, let alone anything.

8. We're all good at going fast but we need to practice going slow for awhile.

9.If You're not happy with yourself...Then chances are You won't be happy with anyone else.

10.Karma is real!

Peace!
