The Case Of Michael Vick

I have said that this blog may slowly be becoming a sports and relationships blog... that's all that seems to be happening that is newsworthy these days, except for the battle for health care that I chronicled last week. This is probably not going to be one of my usual long and wordy posts. Facebook is showing me that I can say a lot by saying less but, that's another post for another day. I just want to get to the point of Michael Vick.

I was watching a news show last night where a panel of so-called "experts" were discussing the two "Michaels". One, of course, was the "King of Pop" and the other was recently released former Atlanta Quarterback Michael Vick. The moderator was saying, "He has done absolutely nothing to show ME that he's a changed man." I'm listening and watching this and saying to myself, "Lady get a grip. He doesn't have to show YOU or anybody else on that panel anything!"

Where do these people and their perceived self-righteousness come from? Michael Vick has served his time in prison, he had an electronic monitoring device on his ankle for the few months that he has been out, and he has been under house arrest. He has served all of his time (23 months), the ankle bracelet is off, and he's free to come and go as he pleases. Now, what more is there for him to do?

We let bank robbers, kidnappers, (sometimes) murderers, rapists, pedophiles, and thieves out of prison everyday and if they are fortunate, they get a job and go on about their lives. I don't think Michael Vick fits into any of those categories so, why can't he continue to earn a living the way he was earning it before he got into trouble? What must he do? Back flips, somersaults, and appear contrite with his head bowed in public every time he is seen? That is crazy and anybody who agrees with those self-serving, self-righteous TV pundits such as Nancy Grace and company (and, by the way, it wasn't Nancy Grace who said this... I'm just using her as an example), I have this to ask? Would you feel the same way if it was you?

Say you served 23 months on lockdown or 23 months with an electronic bracelet on your ankle and was only allowed to be out of your house during the work hours of 9:00am to 5:00pm. Would you still feel as though you should have to do more when it was all over? Would you still feel like you shouldn't be allowed to have a job and earn a living? What if it was your son, brother, or spouse? Would you still feel the same way?

Let Michael Vick be reinstated in the NFL and let's stop all of this foolishness! The man has paid for his crimes and we need to put this behind us and move on.

Christ forgave, so who are WE to judge?

You put it just right, what if it were your son, brother or spouse? I have a son and I would want my son to have a second chance!

I saw the show you were watching on Headline News (CNN) I know who the commentator was who said that..
It wasn't Nancy Grace, but she used to be on the Nancy Grace show and she's one of Nancy's clones.

I'm all for Michael Vick playing in the NFL again. He's paid his debt to society.

Free Mike Vick from the court of public opinion!

Where I come from Dog fighting and cock fighting were so run of the mill, nobody would've batted an eye at it. Mr. Vick certainly wouldn't have been demonized the way he was here.

All this over him financing a dog fighting ring. He wasn't there running it or fighting the dogs..He just put the money up and provided a house for it..Yet he did more time than the actual perps. How fair is that?

The whole case was some bull ishh
and everybody involved knows it.
As far as I'm concerned, the punishment did not fit the crime.

Not really a sports fan, but even I think that he was treated rather harsh considering the circumstances..and I am a dog owner, so I'm not being uncaring.

I saw the broadcast you were talking about on Saturday and I had the same reaction you had...

Another good post Keith, I think they should let Mike Vick play too
and bury this.

You're right Keith, but you know that people like to sit in judgement of others...It makes them feel better about themselves.

Thanks for writing this...I've been feeling the same way about Mike Vick ever since he was released..I get tired of him still being nailed to the cross by the media.

Totally agree with you. I love how Terrel Owens has spoken up about this situation. Hopefully other players step up too.

Who are we as humans to judge!!

let the man go and earn his money

I agree wholeheartedly an i am happy to hear that he will be reinstated. People say "don't play the race card"...but in the case Michael Vicks, these people are definitely not being objective or fair. In the end, Right will win! In the end, TRUTH will win.

anutha gem Keith. Couldn't have said it betta myself.

Funny how these people don't want this man to earn a living when there are dudes in the nfl who have KILLED other humans and they didn't miss any time away from the game
