The Medical Debate Continues!

As you probably can tell, I'm on a health care kick this week. It seems as though scenario one (see yesterday's post) worked out. I called my doctor's office, I didn't even speak to the doctor... I talked to her assistant and they phoned my prescriptions into the pharmacy for me so, I picked them up after work. It looks like I'll live... at least, for another thirty days anyway. I gave the doctor's assistant my solemn promise (without my fingers crossed, mind you) that I would be in her office within two weeks for a face-to-face. I'm betting even more pills will be prescribed.

For a long time, I have often wondered if anybody ever tries to actually cure anybody of anything. I'm no conspiracy theorist but, it seems as if you get sick and you have to set up an appointment with a doctor that can be next week or next month. You see the doctor, they ask you about the symptoms, they just prescribe some pills, and set you up with another appointment, weeks away before you actually get looked at and examined. This leads to yet another appointment and maybe some hospital time, if needed. It all seems like a shell game to me.

Sometimes, I don't feel as if the medicine I'm taking is even working. This is why I hate even going to the doctor. I hate being sick period but, it seems like everytime I get sick, it takes about four doctor's appointments before I even have a semblance of being well. I just don't trust the game and I don't like playing the game. Usually, I'm also out of a considerable amount of cash by this time and I still don't feel better. It's a game and it's part of a health system that has been in need of improvement for a long time. After watching Michael Moore's film "Sicko", I was convinced that I was right. Heaven forbid, if I get really sick and have to start paying out a lot of my hard earned cash for medical attention.

I heard that people and even whole families have been bankrupted by our current health care system and that should never happen. My fictional alter ego, Kevin (read my other blog, Escapades), would say... "If you want to know who is behind a crime, find out who benefits." And, who benefits from your sickness? HMOs... Health Maintenance Organizations (for those that never knew), the health insurance companies, and certainly the huge pharmaceutical companies. They all work hand-in-hand and make windfall profits while you and I go to the poor house and to the grave.

Hillary Clinton tried to reform health care during her husband's presidency but, the Republicans and medical profession seemingly lost their minds. It was as if she had said she was bringing Godless communism to the white house. They mounted one of the most mean-spirited propoganda campaigns of misinformation in history against the Clinton's plan for universal health care and, in effect, the plan was dead in the water. Millions of Americans don't even have the luxury of being bankrupted by the medical establishment because they don't have health care to begin with.

This is a shame and we've got to do better. President Obama is trying to work out a health care plan and is being met with the same opposition from the very same people. I'll discuss that in more detail tomorrow but, this is just how I (as a layman) see the situation. I'm like Marvin Gaye... "It makes me wanna holler, the way they do my life"!

I saw an article today about Obama trying to work out the details of his healthcare plan. And like you said Keith, the Republicans are all over him like stink on you know what. It is absolutely amzing to me how the Repulicans in office are really only standing up for big business and the ultra rich, even for the everyday wealthy folks, they are just fed enough BS to keep them hitting the GOP lever come time to vote.

For the life of me I don't understand how people can't see the shananagins that the Republicans are up to. They don't give a damn about anyone but themselves and their ultra rich cronies, and that's a fact Jack!

And then to not only disagree, but to harpoon anyone who tries to change things so that the rich aren't getting richer, and people still don't see their wicked ways? Are the American people so blind to the truth of the matter, or is it the old "If it doesn't affect me, I don't care" mentality. Or maybe a sampling of both.

Keith, No. They are not trying to help anyone get better because it's a snowball effect. They keep us popping pills, we keep coming to them and therefore they keep getting more money. I saw the other day that prescription meds are bigger than stuff on the streets. People call dentists they've never seen, tell em they have a toothache and they get a legal bonafide prescription for heavy duty pain meds like oxycontin because you know there's no pain like a toothache and tylenol is not going to solve it.
It's a shame the plight we are in and how we are seemingly helpless to fix it.

The idea is to take all of our cash and leave us to die and move on to the next victim.

It's all a hustle, this medical game. There is too much money involved for the powers that be to ever want to approve a health care plan that actually works. Good post as usual.

Glad you got your medicine...I was starting to get worried for you a minute!

The problem is ...So many people don't care about those of us who are not insured and therefore there isn't enough pressure from voters to make the powers that be do something.

I am so glad everything worked out for you with your medicine and all.
You are right..the Medical establishment is not trying to help you get better...they are just trying to gouge as much money from you as possible.

I like the way you took your personal issue and blended it with the plight of all of us and made the larger issue real for the un-informed..This is the genius of your blog.

It's his genius of manipulation for his leftist agenda!

@Anonymous- I see we have another coward who refuses to post their name to an ignorant statement.

I thought this was a great post Keith!

You know what this is about -- the money. A LOT of folks stand to lose their high standard of living (namely Republicans) if this goes through.

I like you watched SICKO and marveled at the ease of which these universal plans work in other countries. The doctors aren't "poor" like these Republicans want to make you think and the healthcare they receive is 10 better than what we get. The biggest thing is that there is no incentive to keep you on pills to make money for the drug companies.

This needs to be done and you can bet the powers that be won't come easy.

Hey Keith,I knew you'd get your meds...Glad you found time to enlighten us on the plight of those who don't have exploitative Health Care.

Hey Keith,
I agree with you, and I'll go a few steps further. I blame Nixon. When he was president the idea of HMO's were presented as a money making scheme against the American people and he "ate" it up, meaning he weakened the FDA as well as the HHA. He and his friends have enriched themselves ever since at the expense of lives and other people's money. These guys have a vested interest in the staus quo. Our brother Obama has a tough row to hoe. Love you!
