Another American Tragedy

Take a good look at this photograph!  With the exception of the baby, everyone else in it is dead!  Take a good look at this picture...Forget that I just said that the man and the woman are dead...Take a good look....

Saturday....the day before Sunday, which in many cities is the traditional game day for Football......The NFL anyway...Police officers were called to the Kansas City home of Kansas City Cheif's football player,Jovan Belcher, 25, and his girlfriend, 22-year-old Kasandra M. Perkins at about 7:50 a.m.. Police found Ms. Perkins on the floor of the master bathroom, and the report said she died from apparent gunshot wounds, but did not say how many times she had been shot.

Jovan Belcher then drove about five miles to Arrowhead Stadium. There, he was met by general manager Scott Pioli and coach Romeo Crennel, and here, Jovan Belcher thanked them for all they'd done for him.
The police report said that when officers arrived at Arrowhead at about 8 a.m., they saw several people in the parking lot outside the entrance to the practice facility...

''As they approached, a subject later identified as Jovan Belcher, observed their presence and moved to an area behind a vehicle,'' the report said. ''From that position Jovan Belcher shot himself one time in the head.''
He was taken to a hospital, where he died, according to the report.

Kansas City Police Sgt. Marissa Barnes said Monday that the firearms found at the couple's home were legally registered to  Jovan Belcher. It is unknown how many guns were found.

Police spokesman Darin Snapp also said Monday that Belcher's mother, who had been staying with the couple, was given temporary custody of the couple's 3-month-old daughter, Zoey.

Darin Snapp said it was unclear Monday if the grandmother and baby were still in the Kansas City area or if they had returned to Jovan Belcher's hometown  of West Babylon, N.Y.
Kassandra Perkins originally was from Texas. Perkins' friend Brianne York, 21, said Sunday that Perkins met Belcher through her cousin, who is married to Chiefs running back Jamall Charles.

Bob Costas, visibly upset about the murder -suicide took the airwaves... at halftime and used his position as a commentator to criticize the NRA and the gun culture of this country....Of course, he was roundly criticized by the usual suspects....The gun lobbyists and the stupid, who would rather watch football and drink beer and eat chicken wings and not have to be called on to have serious thought......Especially not on a Sunday.

This is just one more tragedy in a year of tragedies...If this was , say England, where only the police and the military are allowed to have guns then is it safe to say that all of those people who went to see The Dark Knight Rises" earlier this year would still be alive? Is it safe to say that?  Maybe Trayvon Martin might still be alive and maybe, maybe that drunken nut who drove into a gas station wouldn't have said anything to those kids in that car about their loud music and Jordan would still be alive...??????

If you think it's okay to live in a country where people think being armed makes them feel safe, where people think that being armed gives them the right to settle any dispute or argument once and for all....Where clearly disturbed people think it's okay to kill the mother of their child for whatever reason and then to take their own life too or shoot up a movie theatre to make some point known only to them then maybe you need to take a look at the top photo again....

Maybe you need to tell that baby, who is parentless that his daddy was just exercising his 2nd amendment rights to bear arms!

Well tell it! Bob Costas was on The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell last night and he explained his comments, or more to the point, his quotation from another's writings on the subject of the gun focused society we live in. I totally agree that our society has come to believe that we have the RIGHT to do whatever we choose, at the time we want! When we are armed we can feel emboldened, and seek only our desires. We can make bad choices in these situations.
