Gotta Laugh To Keep From Cryin'

Of course by now, everyone knows that Congress rejected the big bailout yesterday (as they should have). They will be off tomorrow and I'm hearing that they are going to come back later on this week and try to fashion a bill that will not hurt the taxpayer too bad. Here is the truth of all of that... you and I, the taxpayers, are still going to wind up footing the majority of this bill regardless of what they work out. The money has got to come from somewhere doesn't it?

Comedian Wanda Sykes said it well on a recent appearance on Jay Leno. She said that the rich people in America have it great because this is the only nation in the world that won't allow the rich people to NOT be rich. She said that in reality, the poor guy or gal who is working two jobs just to make ends meet will have to cough up some hard earned cash to help bail out the Wall Street crowd so that they won't lose their swimming pools. She may have been joking but, that is basically what it's going to come down to.

It's good to be able to laugh about this but, I for one am not in a laughing mood. This country is on the verge of a financial collapse... the likes that haven’t been seen since The Great Depression of the 1930's. People are going to lose their jobs... it's going to be damn near impossible for young people just starting out to get a loan for school, a car, or a first home... gas and everything else is going to go through the ceiling... and, if the United States doesn't exactly become a third world nation, it's going to be dangerously close to it unless the bleeding stops.

I don't find anything funny about any of this. I'll tell you what I do find funny...I find it funny that there is small percentage of people who think that George Bush has done or is doing a good job! I think it's hilarious that so many people would vote for John McCain and be willing to go through a third term of the Bush Administration. To quote comedian Bill Mahr, "How many screw ups does Bush and his cronies have left in them?" No intelligent person can possibly look at the shape this country is in and justify this administration's performance or the Republican party right now. They really need to sit this election out.

I've heard some of them try to blame the Democratic Congress. The Dems have only been in power for two years and though they leave much to be desired, this can't be put on their heads. The GOP has dominated both houses through much of the 90's up to now. Yesterday, the majority of those votes that sunk the bail out measure were from... surprise, surprise... Republicans. Republicans going against their own president.

To quote Tom Tomorrow, "The future is so bright, I can't bear to look." So, I think I will laugh. I think I'll have a great big ol' belly laugh... I gotta laugh to keep from cryin'.

Yep Keith, we gotta laugh to keep from crying...and also prepare...see i remember back in the 70's, early 80's right after Reagan took over, how everything went down...gas shortages, nothing for the poor, even less for the middleclass, in fact they practically eliminated the middle class. Here we go again...
