A Special Treat For The Grandkids...

Turn your speakers on!

Reading Terminal Market officially kicked off the holiday season on Friday, November 25th with its annual Holiday Railroad featuring a 500 square foot model railroad with nearly a third of a mile of track. Now in its eighth year, the display features 17 working train lines that rumble through a multitude of miniature scenery including Center City Philadelphia, a Christmas village, and snow-covered countryside.

The railroad display has become an annual tradition that customers and their families look forward to each year. This year, the railroad was expanded by adding more trains, bridges, interactive buttons, and the inclusion of familiar Philadelphia venues within the display. The following organizations sponsored the railroad display for 2011:

* ARAMARK Tower
* Center for Architecture
* The Gallery at Market East
* Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp.
* Greyhound Bus Company
* Market Street East Improvement Association
* Marriott Philadelphia Downtown
* Parkway Corp.
* Pennsylvania Convention Center

The railroad will be open until Sunday, January 3rd, 10:00am-6:00pm (closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day) and it is located in the Piano Court of the Reading Terminal Market. Check out the video we made when we went to see it!

Weekend Humor

A wealthy man was having an affair with an Italian woman for a few years.

One night, during one of their rendezvous, she confided in him that she was pregnant.

Not wanting to ruin his reputation or his marriage, he paid her a large sum of money if she would go to Italy to have the child. If she stayed in Italy, he would also provide child support until the child turned 18.

She agreed, but wondered how he would know when the baby was born. To keep it discrete, he told her to mail him a post card, and write "Spaghetti" on the back. He would then arrange for child support.

One day, about 9 months later, he came home to his confused wife.

"Honey," she said, "you received a very strange post card today."

"Oh, just give it to me and I'll explain it later," he said.

The wife obeyed, and watched as her husband read the card, turned white, and fainted.

On the card was written "Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti. Two with meatballs, one without."

Have a Happy New Year and a Great Weekend Everybody!

HAPPY BLOGOVERSARY!!! Four Years and Counting!

I was four years old ,I think when I realized what a birthday was...This blog and my entrance into the world of blogging and the internet period began today when after much plodding from my wife, We got together and launched this, my first blog...It's like my first child....

I think I've covered just about everything with this blog.....and hopefully will continue on...Last year I said I was going to do some new things with the blog...Hope you noticed them... The new recurring posts ( "Keith's Favorite Quotes", "Keith's Music Spotlight", "Weekend Humor", and" 5") , more pictures, and now the addition of music and video.....Hope you all enjoyed it.

Next year..look forward to more innovations...and more attacks on the far right.....I'm serious.... I also hope more people check out and support my other blogs..."Escapades"  ...I'm really writing some great long form fiction or "nigger novels" as one of my fans affectionately calls them...I prefer the term Urban dramas myself..
as well as original short stories, original erotica,  original poetry, more spotlight on african-american art and now as with "Keith's Space" I've added music and video to this blog also...

Don't sleep on my food blog -"Good Foodie" either ...In addition to recipes...I'm going to deal more with food and health... food and sexuality...and some real restaurant reviews....I promise...

Another change with all three blogs is that I'm going to publish less.... Doing 20 posts an average a month for three blogs takes it toll on my time...So I will be publishing less...but you will be getting better quality posts...
Hope I can keep that promise.....

But...a toast to my wife who brought me into this blogging thing and all of you good folks who read and comment and those of you who read and don't comment......I couldn't do it without you....Thanks again for your continued support! Here's to the new year!

Things I Like (and don't like ) about Christmas

LIKES-

1.Remembering that the greatest gift was the gift God gave to humanity, The messiah, Jesus Christ, whose true birth date may not be known ,but is commemorated during this season.

2.Reuniting with Family...My entire Family (Cousins, Uncles, Aunts, siblings, et al)always gets together around this time and has a huge dinner together.

3.Socializing with good friends....Beer and Pizza and Hot wings and lots of laughter and great conversation goes a long way.

4.Having a whole week off from work.   Everyone is not as fortunate to work where I work...but I must say that that is one of my place of employment's most endearing perks...

5. Watching Charlie Brown's Christmas and How the Grinch stole Christmas.....Still my favorite holiday fare.

6.The Food.....And so much of it.....(See my other blog Good Foodie today for a breakdown on what I'm having at my house...)

DISLIKES-

1. All of the politically correct people who insist on saying "Holiday" Party or Holiday this and that because they don't want to offend anybody.  Who is offended?  It's Christmas....a christian holiday....If you're not a christian...then this isn't your holiday... I'm not a Muslim...Ramadan isn't my holiday...I'm not offended.  I'm not a Jewish person... Haunakah is not my holiday...I'm not offended...Get my point.

2. Atheists ,who because they don't believe in God, want to trash the holiday and everybody else who may celebrate it...If you don't beleive..that's fine...but don't be a damn kill joy...Take your ass to work then...and don't accept any presents....

3. So called Christmas purists who decry how materialistic Christmas has gotten......Truth be told...They are too damn cheap to go out and buy a gift for somebody....and yet are the first to be wounded if no one gets a gift for them....Come off of it , you aren't fooling anyone.

4.People who use Christmas (or any holiday for that matter) as an excuse to get drunk and act a fool....

5.People who can't be nice just one day of the week...Their negative attitude and comments turn the family dinner table into a place of aileanation and hurt feelings...Here's some advice... Stay home...Wallow in your own negativity alone...don't poison my celebration with your nasty attitude and mannerisms and issues...There are trained therapists for that...but guess what...THEY ARE WITH THEIR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS ,GENIUS!!!

(Drops mike and leaves the podium!)

Weekend Humor

This comes from an email I got earlier in the week from a friend...This is one of those funny but true stories that I just had to share...

No matter what side of the political spectrum you're on, THIS is FUNNY!

It just all depends on how you look at some things..

Judy Wallman, a professional genealogy researcher in southern California, was doing some personal work on her own family tree.. She discovered that Senator Harry Reid's great-great uncle, Remus Reid, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889. Both Judy and Harry Reid share this common ancestor.

The only  other known photograph of Remus Reid shows him standing on the gallows in Montana territory:

On the back of the picture Judy obtained during her research is this inscription: 'Remus Reid, horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged in 1889.''

So Judy recently e-mailed Senator Harry Reid for information about their
great-great uncle.

Harry Reid:
Believe it or not, Harry Reid's staff sent back the following biographical
sketch for her genealogy research:

"Remus Reid was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory . His business
empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency.

In 1889,Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when
the platform upon which he was standing collapsed."

NOW THAT's how it's done, Folks! That's real POLITICAL SPIN.

Have a great holiday weekend folks!

Holiday Gridlock

You may have to pay a little more in taxes in a few days....Congress ,which is the opposite of Progress as the joke goes is at it again...More partisan bickering...

Those dastardly House Republicans, fueled by the Tea Party moved Tuesday to reject a Senate-passed tax cut extension, hardening a standoff over whether to extend an expiring payroll tax cut and clouding the prospects for a clear resolution to prevent a tax hike on Jan. 1.

The House passed a measure that served the twin purposes of implicitly rejecting the Senate's bipartisan legislation extending an expiring payroll tax cut for two months, while volleying House Republicans' own proposal back to the Senate, where Democrats are in the majority.

Some 229 House members, all Republicans (naturallY), voted to send the payroll tax cut to conference, the formal (and less commonly used) process to resolve legislative differences with the Senate. Seven Republicans joined 186 Democrats in opposition to this plan.

President Obama, in a surprise appearance at the White House briefing, condemned Republicans for playing politics with the vote, and urged Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and House Republicans to defuse "brinksmanship" and pass the two-month deal.

"Let's be clear: Right now, the bipartisan compromise that was reached on Saturday is the only viable way to prevent a tax hike on Jan. 1," the  president said.

The legislative maneuver allowed Republicans to avoid having to specifically vote against the Senate's two-month tax cut, while still voicing their opposition to the deal.

It also solidifies a standoff with Senate Democrats about how to resolve the payroll tax issue by Dec. 31, when the yearlong tax holiday is set to expire. Democrats have said they would refuse to appoint conferees to help resolve the dispute, and would instead insist on House Republicans to relent, and approve the two-month-long cut.

"I think the next step is clear: President Obama needs to call on Senate Democrats to go back into session, move to go to conference, and sit down and resolve this bill as soon as possible," Boehner said at a brief press conference at the Capitol, shortly after  President Obama delivered his remarks

Both sides are directly pressuring the other to act first. "The bill is back in the Senate, so if Harry Reid says he's not going to appoint conferees ... he's going to have to answer to the American people," House Majority Leader Eric "Hedge fund baby" ( and Tea Party darling) Cantor (R-VA) said on MSNBC following the vote.

Democrats seem content, however, to sit back and wait for House Republicans to blink first.
"Pressure every day is mounting on Republicans," Senate Democrats' messaging chief, Sen. Charles Schumer (NY), said Tuesday morning on MSNBC's Daily Rundown. "All you have to do is let the pressure mount, day in day out. And they will come back and support the two month [extension]."
GOP Sen. Scott Brown (MA), who was one of the first Republicans to openly criticize this week's actions in the House, said he was angered by Tuesday's House vote.

"It angers me that House Republicans would rather continue playing politics than find solutions," Brown said in a statement. "Their actions will hurt American families and be detrimental to our fragile economy."
I'm glad at least that somebody in the G.O.P. sees this.

Lawmakers will spend the afternoon debating and voting on motions to instruct House members on those theoretical deliberations with the Senate. This measure would essentially detail just what Republicans are seeking as an output of negotiations. (In this case, Republicans insist that the extension last a whole calendar year.)

After those votes, though, most lawmakers are expected to head back to their districts in observance of this week's holidays, leaving work to conferees. Speaker Boehner said the negotiators he had named to hammer out a deal would remain in Washington, as would members of the GOP leadership. He suggested, though, that the rest of the Republicans would go home.

President Obama has postponed his own vacation to handle the payroll tax dispute, and made a personal plea to  House speaker Boehner to help navigate the crisis.  John Boehner, when asked about that appeal, shot back: "I need the president to help out!"

Oh come on...How long is this B.S. going to continue? Each side blaming the other, Republicans playing the game of brinksmanship while your future and mine hangs in the balance...I hope whatever else happens in 2012, that the American people send this congress a message and send a good many of them to the unemployment line...Maybe then they'll understand ..they'll really understand the plight of the common man.

Voting Conspiracy

For all of my black friends who don't think that their vote counts or makes a difference..Here is some food for thought...There are people in high places who will stop at nothing to dillute or stop you from voting in the next Presidential election or for that matter in any election.

They used to have something called "Literacy tests" in  the  pre-civil rights south in which the voters were required to read the constitution before they could vote.  Many of these people were semi-illiterate (as were the people requiring them to read the constitution) and therefore could not vote.

The fear of this President, Barack Obama being re-elected is heavy on a lot of Republican's minds...They know that they have a lot of clowns running for election and they know that Barack Obama stands to get the majority of the Black vote...They can't afford for him to have any kind of advantage.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder today leveled the Obama administration's strongest criticism yet at new voting laws that, for example, require photo ID's at the polls, limit early voting, and restrict periods for registration.

In a speech prepared for delivery at the LBJ Library at the University of Texas in Austin, Holder quoted Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), a longtime civil rights leader, who said recently that voting rights are under attack by "a deliberate and systematic attempt to prevent millions of elderly voters, young voters, students, and minority and low-income voters from exercising their constitutional right to engage in the democratic process."

What Lewis was talking about, Holder said, was concerns about "some of the state-level voting law changes we’ve seen this legislative season."

The Justice Department is now reviewing some of those new laws. "We will examine the facts, and we will apply the law," Holder said.

"If a state passes a new voting law and meets its burden of showing that the law is not discriminatory, we will follow the law and approve the change. And where a state can’t meet this burden, we will object as part of our obligation" under the Voting Rights Act, he said.

That law, Holder said, is being challenged in at least five lawsuits. And the U.S. Supreme Court recently expressed the view that the time may be ending when close review by the Justice Department is required for changes in voting procedures in states with a history of racial discriminating at the polls. Perhaps, some members of the court said, that requirement of the Voting Rights Act is no longer necessary.

"I wish this were the case. The reality is that in jurisdictions across the country, both overt and subtle forms of discrimination remain all too common," Holder said.

He called the recent effort at congressional and legislative redistricting in Texas "precisely the kind of discrimination" that the Voting Rights Act was intended to block. The Supreme Court has agreed to review the state's newly drawn districts and a lower federal court's substitution of a different plan.

New census data showed Texas gaining more than four million new residents, most of them Latinos, allowing the state four new seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. But Texas, Holder said, "proposed adding zero additional seats in which Hispanics would have the electoral opportunity envisioned by the Voting Rights Act.

"As concerns about the protection of this right and the integrity of our election systems become an increasingly prominent part of our national dialogue, we must consider some important questions. It is time to ask: What kind of nation and what kind of people do we want to be? Are we willing to allow this era, our era, to be remembered as the age when our nation’s proud tradition of expanding the franchise ended?

Are we willing to allow this time, our time, to be recorded in history as the age when the long-held belief that, in this country, every citizen has the chance and the right to help shape their government, became a relic of our past, instead of a guidepost for our future?

Well, Are we willing to do that?  We'll see!

Kobe's Ex Factor

News is not good in Los Angelas Lakers land now of days.....One week after Kobe Bryant's Los Angeles Lakers were denied a trade that would have landed superstar point guard Chris Paul, Kobe received more bad news.

Vanessa Laine Bryant filed for divorce Friday in the Orange County Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences,(but aren't the differences always irreconcilable, hence the divorce?) and will get the sprawling Newport Coast estate as part of the divorce settlement already struck by the couple. Kobe Bryant bought the home in 2001, the year the couple married. His current living arrangements are unknown.

Vanessa Bryant signed the papers on Dec. 1. Kobe Bryant signed his response on Dec. 7 and it was filed Friday, according to the documents. The filing of the documents comes more than eight years after Vanessa Bryant stuck by the basketball icon when he was accused of sexually assaulting a Colorado woman. The case was dropped when his accuser refused to testify, but the former league MVP admitted being unfaithful to his wife and settled a civil suit filed by the woman.

Those same un-named sources who always seem to know everything have now told media wags as well as some bloggers and social networkers....(Not yours truly) that Vanessa Bryant was filing for divorce because she believed her husband had been unfaithful again.

"She's been dealing with these incidents for a long time and has been a faithful wife, but she's finally had enough," one unnamed(of course) source said. "This one is the straw that broke the camel's back."

A representative for the couple released a statement saying, ''The Bryants have resolved all issues incident to their divorce privately with the assistance of counsel and a Judgment dissolving their marital status will be entered in 2012.''

Also in the statement, the Bryants ''ask that in the interest of our young children and in light of the upcoming holiday season the public respect our privacy during this difficult time.''
In the filing, Vanessa Bryant asked for joint legal and physical custody of the couple's two daughters, Natalia, 8, and Gianna, 5. Kobe Bryant asked for the same in his response. Vanessa Bryant also requested spousal support. Kobe Bryant has earned roughly $200 million — not including endorsements — during his 15-year career with the Lakers, but may have to give up half of his assets as part of a divorce settlement, as the couple is not believed to have signed a prenuptial agreement Damn!   Feel all that money just blowing out of Kobe's pocket into the wind????

Kobe Bryant met his future wife in 1999 on a music video shoot when Vanessa Laine was 18 years old. Six months later, she and the then-21-year-old  Kobe Bryant became engaged. They married on April 18, 2001 after Bryant had turned 22.

When Kobe Bryant was charged with sexual assault in 2003, she appeared at a news conference, holding his hand and stroking it tenderly as the NBA star admitted he was guilty of adultery — but nothing else. Earlier, she had issued her own statement to the media, vowing to stand by her husband.

''I know that my husband has made a mistake — the mistake of adultery,'' she said in the statement at the time. ''He and I will have to deal with that within our marriage, and we will do so. He is not a criminal.''
The case against Kobe Bryant was later dismissed.

Last year, Kobe and Vanessa Bryant settled litigation with a former maid who accused the NBA star's wife of harassment. The Bryants counter sued Maria Jimenez for violating a confidentiality agreement by talking to reporters about the family.

My how the times have changed.....Of course...it's not too late for David Stern to veto this divorce!

Weekend Humor

Over breakfast one morning, a woman said to her husband, "I bet you don't know what day this is."

"Of course I do," he indignantly answered, going out the door on his way to the office.

At 10 a.m., the doorbell rang, and when the woman opened the door, she was handed a box containing a dozen long-stemmed red roses.

At 1 p.m., a foil-wrapped, two pound box of her favorite chocolates arrived.

Later, a boutique delivered a designer dress.

The woman couldn't wait for her husband to come home. "First the flowers, then the candy, and then the dress!" she exclaimed. "I've never spent a more wonderful Groundhog Day in my whole life!"

Have a great weekend everybody!

The Season Of Forgiveness

This is supposed to be the season of forgiveness!   Do you have anybody you need to forgive? Is there someone who you wish would forgive you?

There is a person who I once considered a very close friend.  This person lives just a stone's throw away from me.. We had a falling out in the summer of 2008 that has never been repaired. This particular person "defirended" me on Facebook, ''Unfollowed" me on Twitter and sent me a notice that I was being  taken off of their "Evite" list....Whatever my offense, and believe me it was so minor ,I'm not going to waste your time even writing about it....I suppose that showed me didn't it?

I would often see this person in church, in a restaurant, at the supermarket...I would speak and they wouldn't open their mouth to speak back.  I was at  first very hurt and disappointed...but if you know me, you know that two things I do not do is kiss anybody's ass and feel regret about anything too long.  I 've moved on.  The thing we fell  out about is so far past me now that I barely remember all of the particulars, basically some he said, she said you said foolishness...The type of thing high school kids stress over, not two adults.

I know what you may be thinking..."That's just your side of it...what about how the other person feels?"  You're right...I'm not such a self centered , heartless guy that I can't feel for how the other person may feel..but I was never allowed to present my side of the story...I was accused of something and condemned....

Doesn't matter now...It was three years ago...I didn't kill anybody....Time for all parties to move on.  Forgiveness is divine...God forgives us everyday for our many transgressions and if given the chance, I would forgive and forget....but this person will never give me that chance.

You get to a point where you come to the end of your rope, the point of no return with people....I'm at that point with this person....I don't care about them forgiving me...(I don't feel as though I need their Forgiving.)

But this is the season of forgiving of letting bygones be bygones...If you can find it in your heart to forgive someone...by all means, do so....You're not just doing it for that person...you're doing it for yourself too..To free yourself!

Alec Baldwin's Faux Paux

You know...The news in this country is getting goofier by day...As the above Saturday Night Skit shows. By now, unless you were living under a rock (or wished you were),you've no doubt heard about Alec Baldwin's rowdy dow on an American Airlines Flight last week.

He was sitting in First Class playing on his IPAD..They asked him as they ask everybody to simply turn all electronic instruments off until the plane is up in the air and at cruising altitude...A simple request.

Alec Baldwin instead chose to act like a spoiled celebrity and refuse to turn his ipad off..Not only that, he got up and slammed the door so hard that the flight crew heard it.

He was then not only asked, but put off of the plane. This somehow became a media sensation that has been talked about ad nauseum for days now...(Which is why I'm writing about it now I suppose!)

He tweeted his side of the story and then a few days ago, went on Saturday Night Live and parodied the entire event. American Airlines is not laughing though..Apparently they want to play tit for tat and have decided to pull all of the episodes of Alec's sitcom "30 Rock" off of it's flights! That'll show him!

To be sure there is childishness on both sides of this story...I actually wonder why American Airlines even cares what he says or parodies...They put him off the plane..story over. He acted like a boorish ,spoiled celebrity for his part...These people were just doing their jobs...His behavior wasn't and isn't funny..Not to me and their small mindedness and pettyness in trying to pull his show off of heir flights is just as childish...

Like I always say...I can't make this stuff up...Maybe I'll make that into a recurring column next year.

5 Questions

1.How are you different Now?

"I guess I would say that at the age of 50 plus...I'm a lot more mellower than I was say twenty years ago..I'm not so much the smart ass that I used to be...And that's a good thing.. I've let some of the edge off."

2.What do you do for relaxation now of days?

"I used to take long walks and wind up all over the map and have no idea how I got there... Now I find that I like driving..Taking a long drive someplace.  It was probably better health wise to walk..but what can I say..I really enjoy driving..and not just my car..All kinds of cars...I rent cars for fun sometimes...Just to have the feel of driving something different."

3. You Have Money To Burn Like That?

"No ,not really...but look...Life is short...Might as well do something you enjoy....and not stress about cash...Money has no owners..only spenders....As long as I have enough to pay my bills and a little in reserve,I don't stress..."

4.In some of your posts ,you've been having a field day with Herman Cain ...Do you really dislike the man that much?"

''I don't dislike the man at all... I don't believe the things that come out of his mouth and I don't think he believes the things that come out of his mouth either.  I could have told you that the minute he started surging in the polls, (which was a complete surprise to me) that the women would start showing up out of his past...There was a different woman every week..Now that he's out of the race..do you notice that all of these women have grown silent?  Co-Incidence?? I think not!"

5." Anything you'd like to see on the big screen over the holidays?"

"There are no movies out that I'm interested in, but I would like to go to New York City and see that play with Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett in it. I can't think of the name of it..but Samuel L. plays Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the last night of his life and Angela Bassett plays a motel maid at the Lorraine Motel, which by the way I visited this past summer when I was in Memphis. I hear that this play is fantastic."

The Would Be Power broker

Through with running for President, Donald Trump has now decided to be what we all knew he was in the first place...a carnival barker....or rather a power broker, a king maker.

With the cast of clowns that is practically every Republican nominee, I wish him luck. Well actually..No I don't...

Donald Trump has invited all the Republican presidential candidates to a debate. Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman promptly and properly turned down the offer.

In contrast, Newt Gingrich, hoping for a Trump endorsement, made a pilgrimage to the " Donald".

One must understand from the door that this is not some gracious offer by Donald Trump to conduct a a fair responsible debate. This is just another self-serving promotion by Donald Trump, for who else?, Donald Trump, to put none other than, drum roll please.. Donald Trump into the spotlight as kingmaker and power broker.

In Response to the Donald's Offer Ron Paul’s campaign chairman said “The selection of a reality television personality to host a presidential debate that voters nationwide will be watching is beneath the office of the Presidency and flies in the face of that office’s history and dignity." I couldn't have said it better myself. My thoughts exactly.

I feel that Donald Trump’s participation as moderator will distract from questions and answers concerning important issues such as the national economy, crushing federal government debt, the role of the federal government, foreign policy, and the like. To be sure, Donald Trump’s participation will contribute to an unwanted circus-like atmosphere”.

Then again..it's not like these guys were actually going to talk about that stuff in the first place.

Here's something to think about....Ron Paul and John Huntsman are the only candidates with enough common sense to see what the proposal by Donald Trump is really all about, and promptly declined his offer.

Also note that both Ron Paul and John Huntsman, unlike the other Republican candidates are the only ones to put forth serious economic proposals. Moreover, neither is likely to start another major war either....

So...there you have it....Another circus production by the P.T. Barnum of Economics and Politics himself...Enjoy...I won't be watching that circus.
